10 More Precious Tips For Using The Cricut Maker
After years of looking at and wishing for a Cricut Maker, I finally got one! I jumped in head first and started making everything that I could! The card that came with the machine was first and I was hooked! It was Christmas time so then came signs and ornaments. I taught myself how to etch glass. This amazing machine cuts fabric like a breeze! For my birthday, my wonderful husband got me an Easy Press2 and I was off on the HTV path of crafting. Reverse canvas and t-shirts turned out perfect! I’d like to share 10 more precious tips for using the Cricut Maker.

Tips
- Cut slits in transfer paper when applying on a curved surface. This provides the little ‘give’ you need for the vinyl to be able to lay flat.
-
Clean up after crafting every time! It just makes it nicer when you come back the next time not to have a mess to deal with before you start your new project.
-
Use dollar store baby powder to see weeding lines when doing glitter HTV. Sprinkle a little on your project and lightly brush around covering all cuts to make them pop and you can see them so much better to weed. Pic
-
For a mat that has lost its stickiness, just use masking tape to tape your project to the mat to keep it in place while cutting.
-
To keep your fine point blade sharp you can wad aluminum foil into a ball and poke the blade into it. Or you can cut sheets of aluminum foil on the mat. Choose a shape and cut multiples from the sheet using the aluminum foil setting on your machine. Both work well to extend the life of your fine point blade.
Tips
-
Keep all of your Cricut tools in one place. This makes it so much easier when working on o project when everything is together.
-
Use crayons markers when writing and drawing. They are cheaper and write thicker than Cricut pens.
-
Do the weeding in the mat then place the transfer tape on the design while it is still on the mat. Turn mat over and peel it off of your design. Just much easier to do it this way.
-
Make a test cup when using a new material to ensure all settings work with the material. A small shape should be good enough to see if it’s right.
-
Gift cards can be used as scrapers.
