Painted Sign Making

After getting my Cricut Maker I was excited to get started Sign Making-What’s the right way? OMG! What technique was I gonna use? What would work best? Don’t forget to check out more tips for sign making at the bottom of the article.

My first try was removable vinyl and it did OK, there was a little blurring where the paint ran under the vinyl.

So I searched Pinterest and YouTube for help. OK, brush Mod Podge on the project first to seal it and prevent seeping. This turned out somewhat sharper lines but not perfect. The obvious solution is to use permanent vinyl and make your design. My test for durability has been through cold, snow, rain and sun and has not come up yet. Still under observation as it’s only been out there a month so far.

Photo to Drawing

While searching for projects to make on my new Cricut Maker, I came across what I call digitized pictures. This is taking a photo and making it look like a drawing. I was fascinated. How did they do that?!
Searching everything I could on the subject, I came across the app Imaengine. It turns your photo into what it calls “ink” and that looks like a drawing. Unfortunately, this app only works with IOS. I read that Photoshop will do the same thing also.
I even found a special tool that helps remove unwanted background! Check it out a little farther down!

Painting and Distressing Mason Jars

I have friends with birthdays coming up soon and I wanted to make them a little something. I got this idea from one of my Facebook groups to paint mason jars, decorate them and fill with candy. They are sooo cute! After the candy is gone, they can use them for storage jars on a desk, for makeup brushes or in the kitchen for small utensils. They could be used for an artificial flower arrangement. Use your imagination and they can be whatever you need it to be. Lets get started mastering the art of painting and distressing mason jars!

It Begins When You First See It

Cricut Addiction The Ugly Truth – A cautionary tale….I saw it years ago and it sparked a desire in me but oh my so much money for one. Drooling every time I saw one just made me want it even more! Eventually I gave in to my urges and embraced them, rewarded them finally with the Cricut Maker. Pure giddy excitement followed. Would it ever arrive?! I was beside myself with anticipation.

When it finally came, I took it out of the box and just stared at it in wonder that it was actually mine. All the things I could do with it! Cut fabric for my sewing projects, stencils for my wood signs, make cards and put vinyl on all sorts of things.
