Dollar Tree Thrift Store Project

Oh the joy of shopping at the thrift stores! Then there is the Dollar Tree! These places are a crafters Heaven! I’m guilty over stashing a lot of my finds so it’s time to use some of these things. Let me show you what I did here with my Dollar Tree Thrift Store Project.

Chicken Wire Frame

My friend found this chicken wire frame for me at our local thrift store. Of course I had to have it! Not a clue what I was going to do, but I  certainly had to have it! After removing a glob of glue and the ribbon, I scraped all the residue and spray painted it flat white.

Secondly, I love the dry brush technique to distress the paint. So I use my fan brush to apply some ink chalk paint. After it dries, I like to scuff it up some more with a piece of sand paper.

Add the Flower Box

Now I have this desk organizer, tongue depressor sticks, E6000 and hot glue.  I’m going to make a window box to attach to the frame.
First off I cut the sticks down n half with a pair of scissors.
Next I took truffle chalk paint and thinned it with water to make a sort of stain and applied it to the sticks. I wiped them each dry with a paper towel to remove the excess. (I suggest wearing gloves for this step.)
To attach them to the supply organizer, simply apply E6000 and hot glue then place the sticks taking care to keep them straight and even with the bottom edge.

Finishing Up the Box

Let them set up for a little bit then using the E6000 and hot glue attach the window box to the frame. Once again, let it set a bit to securely attach.
Now it’s ready to decorate! First I packed it with floral foam and covered that with Spanish moss. From my stash, I plopped in 3 pumpkins and some flowers and leaves. This will be easy to swap out for different seasons and holidays!

Needs Something More

Ok it still needs something so I made a reversible sign to tuck in behind the arrangement. It was just what it needed and I can use this all fall plus an extra Halloween greeting!
So there you have it my Dollar Tree Thrift Store Project. What do you think? Have I inspired you to create something of your own using Dollar Tree and thrift store items? I would love to see your thoughts and photos in the comments below.
