Fabulous Footie Socks with Flocked Iron-On

After I got my EasyPress2. I wanted to see just exactly what I could do with it. It’s a great addition to my crafting for sure! The things you can do seem endless. Things for me, gifts for the family and friends! Will I live long enough to do everything I want to try?! Today I’m going to show you how make Fabulous Footie Socks with Flocked Iron-On!

Let’s Try Flocked Iron-On

My feet get pretty cold in the winter on out hardwood floors as I’m sure everyone’s does. I love my little footie socks to keep my tootsies toasty. When I saw I could put my own sayings and things on the bottoms, I was off to the Dollar Tree to get some to try out. I also order Flocked Iron-On so the design would give the socks a little traction.
There are many cute saying and designs for certain occasions. My first attempt was to have “If you can read this” on one sock and “then bring me coffee please “ on the other. ( I like to be polite especially when I want something, right?) On the other hand, when I don’t feel so nice, I have “Don’t go away mad” “Just go away”.

Cutting the Designs

First, don’t forget to mirror the images and choose more pressure before cutting the design. Second, use Flocked Iron-On for the material. Third,  place the shiny side down on the mat and lastly, space the designs giving yourself some room to work with each of them when it’s time to transfer.

Once it was designed and cut out on my Cricut Maker, I found on the heating chart what temperature to use and waited for the EasyPress2 to heat up. I cut each design with the Cricut exacto knife, then weeded each design.  Pay attention to the dots of the ‘i’ and the apostrophes that they remain on the design when weeding.

Flatten the socks so that you will be able to place the design on the sole of the socks.

Applying the Design

According the the directions that came with the flocked iron-on, you will need to pre-wash your fabric. Is best used on polyester, cotton or cotton poly blends. Double cut for easier weeding. For a larger decals, press one section at a time. Wash on cold and air dry for longer lasting result. Do not use steam. Preform a test cut and a test application. If your vinyl doesn’t stick, try a higher heat. If your vinyl melts, consider a lower heat.

Now we’re ready to start! The socks are flattened on the EasyPress mat and you begin by pre-heating your item. Use either parchment paper or a Teflon sheet. I chose parchment paper as it is a perfectly fine substitute for the Teflon sheets. . Place the design shiny side up and with the EasyPress2 set on 300 degrees, firmly apply heat for 10 seconds. Lift the EasyPress2 and place the parchment paper over your design. Apply heat for 15 more seconds.

Wait 1-2 minutes then peel the clear carrier sheet off. On the loopy footie socks, the carrier wants to stick so take your time. This is not an easy job! Take care that the letters stay on the sock. I found that if you put your thumb on a bit of the letter to get it started kept it on the sock better. I did put the parchment paper over the design and heated it for about 10 seconds just to ensure it was stuck on good.

So in conclusion, these are some great gifts for just about anyone. Personalize them with your own saying or use mine. No doubt you will want some for yourself too!
