Cooler Weather Inspires Fall Decorating Ideas
Fall decorating ideas! Soon as the temperature starts to drop and the leaves begin to turn, thoughts turn to the perfect fall ideas-pumpkins, gourds and hay bales. Time to start thinking about your fall decor.
To begin, you have to drag out the seasonal decorations that are inevitably in the back of the storage area. It seems like drudgery to move everything out of the way. So now that all the goodies are located and the clutter is put away, time for the fun to begin!

Fall Porch Decorations
Growing your own gourd can be a fun project for the summer. It certainly is a money saver to have so many for free decorations. We had about 7 vines and they produced a table full of different gourds to use in displays inside and out. After purchasing some bigger pumpkins of various kinds and putting them with a bale of hay and some corn fodders..voila! instant beauty! Final touches are some potted mums, cattails, a wooden wheel barrow and bird house. Perfect fall porch decoration!
Wooden Pumpkins
Country fall decorating ideas come in all different forms. We grew some and made some fantastic decorations. You can use scrap wood to create cute, little pumpkins that bring tons of joy. They last forever therefore making them great additions to your fall home decor. During the construction of the new addition a few years ago, the crew made a big pile of scrap treated lumber. I rummaged around in it and pulled all the good, usable pieces. Of course the rest has been used for the pit fires. Check out my super easy guide to make these cuties!
Harry made these from a pattern and we gave them for presents one Christmas. They’re spread throughout my fall decorating!
Fall Home Decorating Ideas
Hope you are fortunate enough to have a ladder in your home that can change with the seasons. I get so much good out of mine, I have 2! Fall ideas are primitive hanging ornies that display autumn, thankful and harvest. Take the jack o lantern out of the scene after Halloween so the display can stay until Thanksgiving. The small, brown pumpkins are apple sauce and cinnamon dough. Three years later due to air tight storage, they still smell wonderful! The wooden pumpkin looks perfect next to the old jug!
If you can sew, there are many patterns out there for fabric pumpkins. They are certainly a money saver because you can use them year after year! A small scrape of fabric, stuffing and a piece of vine for the stem is all you need. Adding bittersweet just sweetens the project! Grouped on the table on top of a burlap runner and a basket of bittersweet and cinnamony smelling applesauce pumpkins, the table is certainly ready for the family meal!
Autumn decorating Ideas
Surely part of your fall home decor ideas will include some Halloween items. Because black cats and candy are a big part of the holiday they inspired me to create these seasonal items. Fun to make and fun to set out, these playful reminders of the season are delightful additions to my primitive fall decorating ideas. I offer these items at my Etsy shop if you would like one for yourself.
Primitive Fall Decorating
So in conclusion, take your queues from the beautiful outdoors. Above all, enjoy all the pumpkins, colored leaves, bittersweet, apple cider by a bonfire or your favorite autumn tradition. Certainly use your imagination and skills to create your own country fall decorations. Inspiration is everywhere!
