Today is the day to show you how to make glass bead sun catchers.  My good friend’s birthday is coming up and she loves my sun catchers. She got one for Christmas, but wants another one, so b-day present it is! Gives me a great opportunity to show you how to make a gorgeous, sparkly sun catcher!

Begin to Make Glass Bead Sun Catchers

First thing I do is gather all my supplies and start planning how to construct this beauty. Cut the number of dangles you want, I have six, from heavy fishing line. Mine is 20 lb test. The dangles will be about 24″ when complete. Add several inches extra of line for the knots. Time to attach the tear drop at the bottom to give it some weight so it hangs straight. Tie 2 square knots and give the string a good yank to tighten the knot. Trim the ends.

The Fun Part

Now the fun part! After surveying all my beads, I begin by placing a crimp where I want my first set of beads to stay. Mark the spot by pinching the fishing line and bending it. I select several beads and make a mirrored stacking of them about 3-4″ long. Measure up the string about 3″ and place another crimp. Time for another set of beads. Change up the patterns to give it flair and personality. Go up another 3″ and create the last set of beads.

This one is going to have a few beads glued to the hanger to sparkle it up, It’s too plain. I love E6000 and of course, that’s what I’m using to secure the beads. They want to slide around, be careful to keep your surface level and keep and eye on it till the glue sets. Takes about half an hour for it to stop slipping around. All the strands are finished and laid out in order to attach to the glass base.

Not the best photo of the finished product, but believe me, it turned out beautiful! Angie loved her new sun catcher and I enjoyed making it for her. Check out more sun catchers at my Etsy shop. Like this? Please leave a comment below.

    That is one BEAUTIFUL Suncatcher!
Please tell me, is the base an older drinking glass?

It is an ice cream sundae dish I found at the thrift shop. I am always on the lookout for cute glass things to use for the base of my suncatchers. Thank you!
