      Springtime!

Spring tour of the grounds

Welcome to our mountain home! I’m happy to take you on a Spring tour of the grounds. Always exciting to see the first crocuses and daffodils poke their little heads up out of the ground. Can’t wait to behold the sea of colors. On a good day, the sun warms your skin and visions of flowers dance in my head! What can I add to the collection this year? I imagine so many possibilities! My mind is filled with ideas. It’s so satisfying to create something beautiful to display!

Sitting at the swing among the daffodils and tulips is so peaceful. No noise other than nature. Birds are happy, spring is here and I can hear the waterfall off in the distance. A gentle breeze is tinkling the wind chimes as Stubby keeps me company lazing on the picnic table. Molly is enjoying time without her boundary collar,  sniffing and running around like the goofball she is!. Serenity….I like to acknowledge perfect moments in my life and this is one. Very grateful for all my perfect moments! The sparkly dangles I put all over the lilac bush are alive in the sunshine. I take it all in and revel in all this glory!

Walk With Me

I have 9 flower beds in all on the property. I have no idea how many different types of flowers I have, but let me tell you, it’s ALOT! As a result, each bed has flowers that bloom for every month of the flower season, from March until September. Soon these will be filled with crocuses, daffodils and tulips, sprinkled with grape hyacinths. I’ve tried my best to turn it into little Amsterdam!  I have a few more ideas for more plants to add someday, but I mostly just try to keep up with the weeds in all of the beds. Seem to lose every year, but at this point every year, I’m full of hope for perfectly groomed beds! They are all cleaned and ready for my precious babies to come on and poke their heads up out of the soil. Daily walks reveal something new every day.

Above are photos of my shade bed. My swing is my favorite place to sit and have coffee in the morning. I can listen to the birds and gather my thoughts, plan my day. Different weather gives a different feel out there. It can be warm and sunny or overcast and breezy and all must just be experienced with an awe at how perfect it is!

A few steps to the house and it’s the porch bed and the 2 two beds on each side of the stairway.

Too Pretty

I brought one lupine here 10 years ago and they have spread profusely! I have pulled and shared many, the whole neighborhood has lupines now. I’ve started just throwing them away because they keep multiplying like crazy. They have decided to live in the walkway as well as the flower beds. This will be gorgeous when they bloom. Harry’s orange road lilies take up a big space in the bed above the walkway, another impressive display when blooming. On around the corner, I have my fairy gardens. Those fairies always pack up for the winter and haven’t come back yet. They return usually in May. Setting the fairy garden up is a favorite chore of mine.

Out in the Yard

Out farther in the yard, I have the Big Bed, the Shed Bed, the Garden Bed and where we were married is the Wedding Bed. I also am fortunate to have a fenced vegetable garden. Last year, the rabbits ate my beans and a ground hog ate some tomatoes, so my wonderful husband put a fence around my garden. I just love it! Tomatoes, beans, peppers, lettuce and Brussels sprouts are going in there this year. Growing our own food is a joy. Canning the produce makes me feel good when we eat it. No gross, unpronounceable ingredients!

Back on the Porch

Love walking my yard and looking at everything that’s going on. Nature is beautiful! Back on the porch it’s bare right now. It will be filled with potted flowers soon, when the frost danger passes. Filling the porch pots is sooo much fun!  I can look over the Big Bed from the deck. It has the most tulips and daffodils. I bought $300 worth of bulbs one year. I was so excited for them, but forgot that a hole had to be dug for each of them! Still glad I got them though!

More and more warm days! Pool season is coming. Parties and friends will fill the summer months. Lots of swimming and corn hole, good food and good friends. Looking forward to keeping the grandsons a few weekends during the summer. Spring is so full of promise of more good things to come. I am a grateful soul!

Spring also brings so much work! Weeds are the bane of my existence! Plants need to be divided, moved and shared. I will have to repair my yard decorations soon. Winter takes it’s toll on things!
