It Begins When You First See It

Cricut Addiction The Ugly Truth – A cautionary tale….I saw it years ago and it sparked a desire in me but oh my so much money for one. Drooling every time I saw one just made me want it even more! Eventually I gave in to my urges and embraced them, rewarded them finally with the Cricut Maker. Pure giddy excitement followed. Would it ever arrive?! I was beside myself with anticipation.

When it finally came, I took it out of the box and just stared at it in wonder that it was actually mine. All the things I could do with it! Cut fabric for my sewing projects, stencils for my wood signs, make cards and put vinyl on all sorts of things.

This post probably contains affiliated links. My full disclosure policy is boring, but you can find it HERE.

Can’t Fight It When Takes Hold

My urges to make something was overwhelming so I made the sample card project that was included. Scared, but eagerly I loaded the machine and then hit cut….I’ll never forget that feeling! I was hooked without a doubt! The following weeks, I dove down the Cricut hole and barely surfaced long enough to cook dinner. I devoured every bit of information I could find about this wonderful machine. It did so much more than I expected and I was going to do them all!

First cricut project

Then it struck me that I had very little supplies for this beautiful Cricut Maker. Off to the craft store I went. I had pretty much gotten over all past craft addictions from the past and hadn’t been in one for a few years. The new Cricut Addiction made me fee like Norm on Cheers ( Watch that old sitcom). The store called out my name! I was home! Off to the vinyl section I went. Huh, this stuff is not cheap, but I need it! I bought tools, a portable trimming tool, an assortment of vinyl and some cardstock. Surely this will be a very good start….well, The Dollar Store had some nice glass canisters that would make nice Christmas gifts…with some vinyl on them!

The Addiction Begins

Back in the craft room I begin my projects. Each one bringing a bigger thrill than the one before! My house had fur tumble weeds in the halls, but I didn’t care! All I wanted to do was put vinyl on everything and make painted wooden signs! Then I saw a hot mess canvas. It was a jolt to my system and I had to make one! Canvas was on sale at Michaels…:) another trip to feed my newly acquired addiction! I had to have this stuff! You just don’t understand!

Before you know it, I’m scouring every thrift store I can find. So many treasures there to use for my projects! You see, I’d found out about glass etching, yeah this thing had me in it’s clutches and was not going to let go! I didn’t fight it either because it was so fun! My creative soul was soaring high. I could find frames and glassware and cups and canisters and and and…oops I was so swept up in the wonder of it all!

We get a Printer

We needed a new printer, so when Harry asked what kind I needed for the Cricut Maker projects, I searched around and found a wireless crafting printer. What will they think of next! How would I ever kick this thing with him as my enabler?! Obviously I was going to need printable vinyl and sticker paper! Oh, Amazon, here I come! We spent a lot of time together and I fed my habit with more cardstock, etching cream, rub n buff and heck for good measure, a stylus for making digitized photos! I HAVE to have it.

happy birthday

Crafting tirelessly for days on end I did every project I found that was cool. Found ideas on Pinterest, my Facebook groups and my wonderful Cricut YouTube heroes. They present their projects so innocently, I follow them faithfully! Lordy, it cuts fabric like a dream and then I turned my BFF’s emoji into a pattern. These people are so clever! Beware though, they play a big part in the addiction with their fancy tips and just HAVE to make projects! They are in fact pushers of Cricut and I love them for introducing me to the Cricut world.

More Signs of Addiction

The craft room stays in a shambles most of the time. Another telltale Cricut Addiction sign. I clean it up from time to time and you would never know about my illness. No wait, what’s all that stuff in that plastic cabinet you found at a thrift store for $3? And what are all those rolls of vinyl on your homemade storage board? Assorted other supplies that I just store out in the open so I can get to them quick if the Cricut addiction hits.

It’s not a cheap habit but a smart addict can ferret out the deals! Michaels with their luring 40% off one item coupon, special box offers, free shipping. They all work on your bank account. From my view, money well spent! Hey, I put some stuff on Etsy to try to sell and have done OK. Maybe one day I’ll be able to support my habit! Lol. Gonna have to find a way cause I’m asking for a heat press for my birthday in about 6 weeks which opens up a whole new can of supplies I need!

Life with the Cricut Addiction

Eventually, the new finally wore off and I’m at a point where I just do maintenance crafts to keep my addiction under control. A vinyl project here and a glass etching there… such is life after you get hooked. I get  Emails from Michaels and my Cricut gurus to keep me in the loop. I still prowl Pinterest for new project fixes. That’s the thing about this Cricut addiction, they are constantly coming up with new things to entice you to want to make. Once that little Cricut bug bites you, you’re a goner, but it’s just so wonderful!

So let’s here from the rest of you addicts by commenting bellow. I’ll start …..Hi, I’m Sue Ellen and I’m a Cricut holic.
